Freedom of Assembly

Davis Protest Moves From Freeway To Intersection March 4, 2010 http://www.kcra.com/r/22738602/detail.html

1st Amendment
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. "

A freeway was shut down because of protesting students. The reason for their protest was becasue of education cuts in California. Some students were hit in their legs by projectile pepper balls that were fired by police. Eventually police were swinging batons at students and arresting organizers. A few hours later, the crowd dispersed and the protesters agreed to leave and end the protest if the police were willing to release their organizer. Before it was six p.m. more than 100 students blocked off an intersection by sitting down this time. For safety reasons, officials closed and blocked nearbyy streets and were not reopended until 8 p.m. During this protest, about 12 fire alarms had gone off at the UC Davis campus.

This protests demonstrates the second amendment of the United States Constitution. It gives people the freedom of speech, assembly, press, religion, and petition. If this law had not been given to the people, I garantee all of the protesters would have been thrown in jail. Athough this was not an illegal act, they should not have been able to block off the roads, steets or intersections.
